Men are guaranteed to stretch more if they do this: Jana Hocking

Last night, I was perusing Instagram when a video popped up of David Beckham saying the sexiest thing a man can say to a woman – “good girl”.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – those words get me hot under the collar.

But, alas, David Beckham spoiled it. Yes, I never thought those words would escape my lips, but he gave me the creeps.

You see, to be perfectly blunt, it was his voice. That high pitched nasal tone made him sound … smelly.

And the fact that he was telling his dogs as he fed them treats to teach them how to “sit”? Let’s just say I wasn’t impressed.

However, I maintain that if it was Tom Hardy saying the same phrase in that deep, sexy voice of his, I’d be watching it on repeat – maybe with a vibrating contraption in hand. I said what I said.

It made me think about the last guy I dated and why I was so attracted to him.

The story – not too long ago, a friend suggested that her male colleague might be a good match for me. She showed me a picture of him on Instagram and I thought he was cute, but when I met him in real life and he greeted me with a deep, sexy voice? I was hooked.

His voice had a baritone quality reminiscent of George Clooney or Sean Connery in their prime. It also helped that he pronounced all his vowels and had a poetic flair to his polished vocabulary. There’s something ridiculously sexy about a man who has a deep voice and knows how to use it.

When I was a radio producer, we could tell which callers were hot just by the sound of their voices. Heck, that’s why sex audio books are on the rise.

So when this man would leave me voice notes – definitely on purpose – I would get all hot and sweaty.

Just like a good set of chicks can turn a girl from a five to a 10, I honestly believe a deep voice can do the same for a man. I mean, look at Russell Crowe. He’s not a gladiator these days, but given the chance? Yes, yes I will.

Think about it. Who attracts you most in a room? The guy who speaks in a soft murmur, or the one whose voice commands attention? A deep voice creates a sense of security and safety. When he talks, he sounds like he knows what he’s talking about, and that’s definitely endearing.

And as always, research backs me up. A recent study found that a deep voice gives a man an air of power and sexual allure. Men with low, sonorous voices are more likely to be perceived as attractive, masculine, respectful, and dominant. Mmm … dominant. Okay, I’m getting off topic.

Research also shows that we women are often biologically inclined to be drawn to deeper voices. Why? It all comes down to evolutionary signals. A low voice is often associated with higher testosterone levels, signaling genetic fitness.

In other words, a deep voice can subconsciously convey that a man is a good husband. It’s like nature’s way of saying, “Hey, this guy can help me raise some healthy offspring.”

So, guys, if you want to relax more, it’s simple – turn down the volume.

Now, many of you may worry that you weren’t gifted with a naturally deep, sexy tone, but ask any actor and they’ll tell you that it’s something that can be practiced and perfected.

I remember studying journalism at university, where we were taught to speak in a lower octave because newsrooms believed that a deeper voice was taken more seriously by TV viewers. Many actresses also lower their voices when playing sexy characters – think Angelina Jolie Mr. & Mrs. Smith.

It makes sense.

So the next time you pick up the phone to call your lady friend or leave her a voice note, why not give it a go? Evoke your inner Morgan Freeman and drop an octave.

Seriously, you’d be shocked how it affects us.

You are welcome.
